Cannabis Sexing

Friday, April 24th, 2009 | Author: admin

Unfortunately five of the eight outdoor OG Purple Kush and the unknown  green strain have presented male pre-flowers. Unless you are breeding, you will have to weed out the males and keep the females. Even hermaphrodites can fertilize an entire garden; little pollen is needed to pollinate female flowers. This could’ve been avoided if the plants were given increased amounts of nitrogen; when given increased levels of nitrogen- the chances of a female increase.

The remaining three have female pre-flowers at the seventh and eighth nodes. These are pre-flower pistils, very few are presented and the ones that are dry out quickly. This is not bad, the plant is just showing its sex.

  • It now appears that the cannabinoid system evolved with our species and is intricately involved in normal human physiology- specifically in the control of movement, pain, reproduction, memory, and appetite, among other biological functions. In addition, the prevalence of cannabinoid receptors in the brain and peripheral tissues suggests that the cannabinoid system represents a previously unrecognized ubiquitous network in the nervous system
  •  Cannabinoid receptor sites are now known to exist in the nervous systems of all animal more advanced than hydra and mollusks.
  • Now that this is known, it is easier to conceptualize how the various form of cannabinoids might have a potentially therapeutic effect on diseases ranging from osteoarthritis to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)
  • The discovery of an endogenous cannabinoid system, with specific receptors and ligands, has progressed our understanding of the therapeutic action of cannabis from folklore to science

A Safer Alternative

NORML v. DEA 1988

“In  strict medical terms marijuana is far safer than many foods we commonly consume… Marijuana, in its natural form, is one of the safest therapeutically active substances known to man. by any measure of rational analysis marijuana can be safely used within a supervised routine of medical care.”

-Drug Enforcement Administration

Chief Administrative Law Judge Francis Young (DEA v. NORML 1988)

SAFETY OF CANNABIS

  • Cannabis is not an intoxicant (poison)
  • Cannabis has an exceptional safety ratio; there is no known LD 50 (limit to death)
  • If more than needed is consumed, the consumer will eventually fall asleep, unlike the typical ‘overdose’ that is associated with most drugs including alcohol, pharmaceutical pills, and other illicit drugs like heroin, cocaine, pcp etc. This is because when cannabis is consumed, it effects the frontal lobe (cerebral cortex) not the cerebellum; the part that control motor skills (moving, talking etc) and auto-motor skills (breathing, different organ functions etc)
  • Americans College of Physicians “strongly urges the legalization of cannabis for medical use.”
  • National Nurses Society on Addiction also strongly urges to “make it available for physicians to prescribe.”
  • there has been 17,000 recorded studies on cannabis and its medical property’s

THE MEDICAL PROPERTY’S OF CANNABIS

The known diseases cannabis treats

  • Alzheimer’s disease
  • ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease)
  • Diabetes Mellitus
  • Dystonia
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Gastrointestinal disorders
  • Gliomas
  • Hepatitis C
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Hypertension
  • Incontinence
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Osteoporosis
  • Pruritis
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Insomnia
  • Tourette’s syndrome
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • ADHD/ADD
  • Migraines

These are the most recently discovered disease’s and ailment’s that can be treated with cannabis. As more and more research is allowed, more and more information on this incredibly medicinal plant will be discovered.

Bending: week 1

the main stem has turned upright and is now molded in the position it was put in. Now you can see the lower shoots already showing signs of an increase in energy.

There are many different techniques you can use when cultivating cannabis. These include pruning, fimming, drafting, cloning, and bending. All 5 are used for different reasons and results. The most extreme techniques are pruning, fimming, drafting, and cloning. To successfully grow using any of these 4 techniques you must be precise with every cut and know exactly what you are doing. The least extreme is bending and this technique has tremendous results if done right. When the plant reaches the 5th node it is ready to be altered with any of these techniques. Bending involves gently leaning the plant so the lower shoots get open sunlight (or artificial). This will allow the lower shoots to become strong healthy branches, which will result in many more colas come harvest.

The weather has been unusually windy. The days are beautiful with highs in the 70′s and lows in the 50′s. It would be superb growing conditions if the temperatures for the high and low were to be 10 degrees higher, but the 70-50 degree temp range is near perfect anyway. If the wind gets too strong it can whip the plants back and forth which can cause stress. If strong winds persist, you will have too put a barrier around the plant to deplete the strength of the strong wind gusts. Do not totally cover the sides so the plant doesnt get any wind because wind will naturally strengthen the main stem and the branches.

Cannabutter Recipe

This is cannabutter. It is fairly easy to make, you just need to have the ingredients.

img_0686

Cannabutter Recipe

STEP 1: Melt .5 kg of any butter in a saucepan

STEP 2: Add several ounces of finely sifted cannabis or several grams of keif or hash oil (do not use hash). If extra potency is wanted, you can repeat step 2,3, and 4 only when using the finely sifted cannabis. If using kief or hash oil you can just add as much as you want the first time because it is extremely small and melts quick so the room for more is always available.

STEP 3: Simmer on a medium-low temp and keep a close eye on it while stirring gently the entire time. when the butter takes on a green appearence, it is time for step 4

STEP 4: If using finely sifted cannabis you will need to strain all the leaf and flower material out of the cannabutter. To do this you will need a 130-185 micron screen and a sanitized bucket (metal recommended). Pour the cannabutter through the screen into the bucket. There will be lumps of soggy bud material; take a spoon or spatula and push the material firmly against the screen so the remaining butter soaked in the material doesn’t get forgotten. Take all the “green” butter and store in a plastic conatiner and keep it refrigerated.

*****do not throw the soggy bud material into the garbage…make a “green fairy”: simmer vodka or gin in a clean sauce pan. Throw the leafy material into the pan and let sit for 2-3 min.(*keep on low-medium) using a kitchen funnel, pour the concoction into a shot glass and add a tiny pinch of sweetener and enjoy. ***EXTREMELY POTENT DO NOT TAKE MORE THAN WHAT IS NEEDED***

Chocolate Chip Cannamuffins

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009 | Author: admin

There are endless possibilities when cooking with cannabis. The most famous dish to infuse cannabis into is chocolate brownies. This method is particularly good because of the amount of fatty lipids it contains. THC molecules are fatty soluble, meaning they easily combine to fat. What this means is the THC will enter the body more efficiently and will have a much stronger overall effect.  So when cooking with cannabis be sure to include it in a dish that contains fatty lipids (desert dishes are especially good to infuse with cannabis).

Just yesterday I prepared a dish that contained 2 grams of G-13 keif and a quarter cup cannabutter. I infused it into 10 chocolate chip muffins.

Muffin Recipe

Purchase at a local store a ready to bake chocolate chip or any kind box kit. (located near the brownie mix)

You will need the muffin mix, 2 eggs, 1/4 cup cannabutter, 1 gram or more of keif, 3/4 cup water, a cup cake/ muffin baking tray, and pam.

STEP 1: Get a metal bowl and put the water 2 eggs and muffin mix in it. Turn oven to 375 degrees, do not go higher even if the directions on the box say so. the last 1-2 minutes of baking turn up  the oven to 400.

STEP 2: get a sauce pan and turn the heat up to level 3 or low. Place a quarter cup of cannabutter in as well as the keif. mix gently for 20 minutes.(*if heat source is to high it will burn the THC)

STEP 3: pour the butter into the bowl and mix well. Fill the tray holes 2/3rds of the way because the muffin batter will rise.

STEP 4: Put in the pre-heated oven and let bake for 15 minutes. Take it out after and put a tooth pick through the muffin to the bottom then take it out. If the tooth pick is wet and alot sticks to it its not done, if it is nearly dry its done. let sit for 5 minutes then enjoy.

Ammiano’s Landmark Bill

Monday, April 13th, 2009 | Author: admin

California assemblyman Tom Ammiano (D-SF) announced, on Feb 23, the introduction of AB 390; a bill to tax and regulate cannabis like alcohol and cigarettes. At a San Francisco press conference, Ammiano stated that “with the state in the midst of a crises, the move to tax and regulate cannabis like alcohol and tobacco only makes sense”.West Coast Leaf, volume 2, No. 1, spring 2009, Pg 1. The Bill would allow licensed producers and distributors to market their product to responsible adults who are over 21, similar to the sale and regulation of alcohol. If AB 390 passes it will open the flood gates to the cannabis industry; it will reveal that cannabis and the major industry that surrounds , will have the potential to boost americas economy by generating tax revenue and by creating mass amounts of seriously needed jobs.
